In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Tagline.”
I had a friend tell me one time no matter what you do always chase perfection. You’re never going to find it. However, if you strive for perfection you will find excellence along the way.
That is how I came up with the title of my blog. Then when I was trying to come up with a tagline it hit me. Chasing Perfection: One Mistake At A Time.
I am very much a perfectionist. I would rather skip the learning process and be great at what I’m doing. If I am completely honest with myself I hate criticism; even if it is constructive criticism. I soak in praise but cringe at any kind of correction. Accepting criticism or correction means accepting I screwed up and that’s a bitter pill for me to swallow sometimes. It is a flaw I am working on.
I have recently started to work with a mentor at work. I am learning new areas of the store that I have not worked in before. The first day I worked with her I completely screwed up the project we were working on and had to start all over.
I was frustrated with myself and was wanting to break out in tears. I apologized profusely. She told me hey. It’s no big deal. That’s how we learn. I didn’t know all this when I started here you know.
That’s life really. We make a mistake and we learn from it. Rinse and repeat.
If I was to choose the tagline to describe my life it would be just that. Chasing Perfection: One Mistake At A Time.
I’m a go getter and I work hard. I will always chase perfection. There is nothing wrong with that. However, I have to remember that in order to chase perfection you must learn from each mistake that you WILL make.
